Almost every year there is someone at our practice who is raising money for charity either by walking, running, swimming or some other such activity.
This year we decided to raise money as a practice and wanted to do something we could all get involved in. What better way than to enter the Northwich Dragon Boat Race which was to be held on the River Weaver on Saturday 13th July as part of the Northwich River Festival 2019?
There were to be 22 teams of 12, plus a drummer, which meant we could just about fill a boat.
After weeks of (not really) training, we were ready, and with the help of a few props, “The Witton Street Tooth Fairies” were ready to show Northwich just how smooth and fast a dragon boat could move through the water!
It was a beautiful, hot sunny day and the crowds were out in full. 3 boats would race at a time, in at least 3 races, and we were in the third race. It was so exciting watching the first race start, trying to pick up tips on how to win…… until one of the boats in the first race capsized!! This hadn’t actually occurred to anyone in our team, and panic swept through the Tooth Fairies like floss between teeth.
Despite fear of falling in every time we got in the boat, a fantastic effort was made for all 3 of our races, but sadly we weren’t to progress to the next stage.
Our main achievement was to not capsize!
Despite all that, we all had a fantastic day, the weather couldn’t have been better, the crowds were great and the team had a thoroughly enjoyable day.
Not only that, but we managed to raise over £1300, to be split between some nominated local charities of Northwich and the British Heart Foundation.
We would like to thank all the people who donated to the event, and I would like to thank all the team members for all their hard work and dedication.
This was certainly a day to remember and we hope to do it all again next year and raise more money for the people of Northwich.
